Memorial Day At The Lake

Hello Everyone.  It seems like It has been a long time since we have put up a new post.  The last two weeks have been running non stop trying to get the crops in.  But the weather has put a stop to all that.  We just finished planting soybeans on the creek bottom Friday night.  By Saturday afternoon they were underwater.

All weekend we have had storms rolling through dropping water.

By Sunday afternoon water was flowing down from the North over the road.  At times the current across the road was quite strong.   Our dear friends Paul and Lisbeth were here from Minneapolis for the weekend.  Paul is taking the opportunity to test the waters.  Monday morning Paul and I took turns riding the Surly Pugsley through the water.  At the deepest point it was just over the bottle cages.  There is a video of that floating around somewhere…Paul?

Over near Mom and Dad’s place the water was running really deep across the road.  This was much worse than even the flood of 1993.  In that year water got onto this road but never came across.  Here it is covered for a quarter of a mile.

With all of this water to explore, and while it it way too wet to do anything constructive with planting, all I can think about is building a raft.  Cash and I drew up some plans at the breakfast table this morning.  Photos coming soon.
