Do Something.

So much of life is about momentum.  Things at rest tend to stay at rest.  Things in motion tend to stay in motion.  It is easy to cruise through months just doing what you’ve always done.  There is always an excuse not to start the next phase.  Always a reason not to take a risk or do something you’ve always wanted to do.  Sometimes you just have to launch out and make it happen.  Often times it just takes one decision while you’re feeling adventurous to change course.

Three weeks ago we decided that pastured poultry was something we could do. We bought Joel Salatin’s book, did some figures, and said “Hey, why not?”.  That day we ordered a late summer/fall test run of 25 cornish cross broilers.  We decided that we would do a batch this summer and if it turned out well we would take orders for birds beginning next spring.

We ordered the birds three weeks ago and yesterday took them out of the brooder.  They are 2-1/2 weeks old now and really growing like crazy.  We have already learned a lot and are excited that this might be something we can do on a pretty big scale.  (We still have a lot to learn first.)

Still, just because we have a lot to learn doesn’t mean that we can’t move forward.  Just because you aren’t where you want to end up, doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t start down that road today!
